Adenda - Corrigenda

These section contains errors that existed in the original text of the paper. The errors have been corrected in the main paper, but they are noted here so that people reading older versions can see the changes. Corrected spelling and grammaterical errors are not noted.   • Introductory quote - Name of General is Ibérico Saint Jean, not Saint Jeant
  • Introductory quote - Title of General changed from "Interventor" (Spanish term) to "Controller"
  • Section III - Sentence three, of the their parragraph of the section titled "Torture" was changed from:

    The judge answers that torture was introduced to the Penal Code in 1978 as a crime against the interior security of the State, and that the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights (ratified by Spain in 1977) establishes that every state will do whatever is necessary to establish its jurisdiction in the crime of torture when the victim is a national of that state.

    To:

    The judge answers that torture was introduced to the Penal Code in 1978 as a crime against the interior security of the State, that it is prohibited by the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights (ratified by Spain in 1977), and that the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (ratified by Spain in 1987), establishes that every state will do whatever is necessary to establish its jurisdiction in the crime of torture when the victim is a national of that state.

  • Section II - Added at the end of the section:

    The National Audience will decide on the issue of jurisdiction and cosolidation of the cases on Thursday, October 29th. If the National Audience denies jurisdiction, the case will be appealed to the Supreme Court (and the European Court of Justice or the European Court of Human Rights, if necessary). If the National Audience grants jurisdiction, the case will go forth; the prosecutor cannot appeal that decision.
